Product description

The Cuvée Argot is a cuvée to get to know the distillery concept of Waterford. A total of 14 single farm origin whiskies from Waterford were blended together by Head Distiller Ned Gahan and matured for around three years in casks typical of the distillery. Argot is an original name for a historical sociolect of French, which was the secret language of beggars and crooks in the Middle Ages. As is customary at Waterford, the Single Malt is bottled without colouring and without chill filtering.

The Distillery: Waterford

The Waterford Distillery was created in 2015 by converting a former Guinness Brewery in Waterford, in the very south of Ireland. The distillery's founder Mark Reynier was formerly the mastermind behind the rebuilding of Islay Distillery Bruichladdich. The former Wine merchant approaches Whisky (spelled without an 'e', even if they come frome Ireland) production in a similar way to Wine production: He wants to capture the terroir, i.e. the origin-specific character of the grain, with his Whiskies. read more

Kommentar: Der Rauch war da aber sehr sehr im Hintergrund. Ansonsten wurden 14 Whiskies vermählt und das Ergebnis ist ok. Die Jugend ist präsent aber das weiß man ja bei Waterford.

Kommentar: Tja, hier wurde nun so allerhand zusammengekippt. Ein wenig frage ich mich warum, war aber vielleicht gerade deswegen neugierig. Ist bei weitem nicht schlecht, aber eben so wie zu vermuten war: irgendwie, vor allem im Geschmack, recht durcheinander bzw. nicht sonderlich ausgewogen. Der Abgang war aber ordentlich. Bei Aroma & Geschmack finde ich persönlich: viel Luft nach oben. Dennoch ist Waterford ein interessantes "Projekt" und ich bin gespannt auf weitere Abfüllungen in den nächsten Jahren.
