Barra Atlantic Gin comes from the Scottish island of Barra. The island is the largest of the Outer Hebrides. An edible species of red algae, which is found in abundance on Barra, is added to the gin during distillation. The cells of the red algae contain carrageenan, which is the reason for the name Carrageenan Seaweed on the label.

De Distilleerderij:
The family-run Isle of Barra Distillery on the island of the same name in north-west Scotland has been producing Barra Atlantic Gin since 2017. A Whisky Distillery is to be built as well, for which planning permission was granted in 2022.

Peterop 07.08.2024Aroma: Frisch geschnittene Gartenkräuter, quietschige Zitrone, ein Hauch von Seetang und Meeresbrise.
Geschmack: Zitrusnoten und Wacholder, süßlich und gleichzeitig herb.
Abgang: Erfrischend und maritim, ein wenig florale Süße.
Kommentar: auch pur brennt hier nichts, sehr angenehm. Mit Tonic Water sehr frisch und maritim. Für mich allerdings auch sehr von der Tagesform abhängig. Manchmal ist mir die Seetang Note doch etwas zu penetrant und liefert einen sehr herben Eigengeschmack. Insgesamt daher ein guter, aber kein überragender Gin. -

Geschmack: Weich mit Zitrus- und Wacholderkomponenten, dazu erneut maritime Facetten.
