Tullibardine is actually not the oldest Scottish Distillery but regarding the first step of the Whisky production it is one of the Methuselahs of the business: The visit of King James 4th of Scotland of the local brewery situated here before is known as the first recorded purchase of Beer. That was in 1488, long before in 1949 the first spirit was distilled here at Tullibardine in Perthshire. read more

Aroma: Fast wie in einer Backstube – es riecht nach frischem Vollkornbrot. Es wird begleitet von einer dezenten Zitrusnote und reifen Birnen. Auch etwas „Blumiges“ ist auszumachen. Mit der Zeit kommen Kekse mit Nüssen (Haselnuss?) und etwas Vanille in den Vordergrund, wobei die Fruchtnoten parallel verbleiben. (21)
Geschmack: Sehr robuster Antritt mit einer deutlichen Eichenwürze. Der Alkohol wirkt jugendlich, was auf ein sicherlich nur max. 5 Jahre altes Destillat hinweist. Im Gaumen prickelnd, sprudelnd, was mir allerdings überhaupt nicht gefallen mag, zumindest nicht in Verbindung mit der Eiche und karamelligen Noten. Sogar leichte Salzigkeit. (18)
Abgang: Klingt malzig, holzig aus, wobei eine eher kurze Prägung haften bleibt. Leider wenig Obst übrig, vielleicht noch etwas Kakao, daher ganz zum Schluss wieder süßer werdend (und dadurch süffiger wirkend). (19)
Kommentar: Irgendwie doch sehr eigen, aber durch die angenehme Nase wiederum auch irgendwie gefällig. Als Einsteiger-Dram bedingt geeignet. Aus einer Ex-Bourbonfass-Reifung erwarte ich etwas mehr Fruchtigkeit und vor allem vanillige Noten. Da er für den Geldbeutel absolut erschwinglich ist, sollte man nicht zu kritisch urteilen. Etwas mehr Destilleriecharakter würde diesem Dram gut tun. (19)
