Product description
Benriach The Smoky Twelve is the smoky version of the new 12-year-old from the Speyside distillery. It is matured in three types of casks: Bourbon, sherry and Marsala wine casks. Smoky malt is produced on Benriach's in-house malt floors for only one month of the year. The design of the bottle and tube are modelled on the original Benriach from before it closed in the 1990s.

Kommentar: fruchtig-süßlicher Rauch schwebt über einer fruchtigen Sherrysüße, sowohl in der Nase als auch am Gaumen. Trotz des Rauchs ein eher feingliedriger Whisky, aber es braucht Zeit, bis sich die Noten von Sherry und roten Früchten erschließen. In der Nase noch ein Hauch von Vanille, am Gaumen etwas Mandel. Der Abgang ist nicht sehr lang, mit Eiche, noch mal Rauch und etwas Sherryfass. Insgesamt komplex für einen zwölfjährigen, der Rauch ist trotz seiner Prägnanz gut eingebunden, es braucht etwas Zeit, bis er sich einem erschließt.

Kommentar: Ich hatte die Gelegenheit, ihn vor Ort zu verkosten, recht persönlich und noch einmal intensiv allein, was vielleicht den Eindruck beeinflusst. Im Vergleich zu anderen 12-Jährigen recht komplex in Geruch und Geschmack, interessant und angenehm, vor allem, wenn man ihm etwas Zeit zum Atmen gegeben hat. Der fruchtig-süße Rauch von Benriach gefällt mir persönlich immer sehr gut!
