The fisherman's son Alejandro Hernandez founded the Pampero distillery together with Luis Toro in Caracas in 1938. The original recipe and the special distillation process, in combination with the geographical conditions of Venezuela consisting of jungle, coast and climate, the sugar cane was harvested in a very dry season. With the addition of water from the local Carbonero well and at least two years of maturation in oak and sherry barrels, a particularly smooth and balanced rum was created.

The Pampero Rum Distillery was founded in 1938 by Alejandro Hernandez and Luis Toro in Caracas and today belongs to the Diageo spirits group. The Pampero logo shows a 'llanero', a cowherd on a rearing horse, in honour of the gauchos of the South American plains (pampas).
