In contrast to most Speyside distilleries, very slightly smoky malt is used to produce the 10-year-old Benromach. The Single Malt was mostly matured in ex-bourbon casks. 20% of the whisky was matured in sherry casks. Despite the newly designed label with the usual contents.

The distillery was founded by F.W. Brickmann and John Callum in the year 1898. Two years later they started the production. The distillery is right next to the City of Forres in the Speyside.

Kommentar: Das Tasting Paket offeriert eine spannende Vielfalt einer bemerkenswerten Distillery die mir bisher völlig unbekannt war. Sehr schöne komponierte und ausgewogene Whiskys!

Nase: Malzbonbons, Zitrus + sanfter Torf, Sherry, Karamell, saftige/saure Äpfel, helles Getreide
Geschmack: süßes Toffee, glimmende Kohle, viel Malz/Getreide, ganz leichte bittere Note, frische Bourbonvanille, würzige Holzfässer, pfeffriger Abgang
Nachklang: wärmend intensiv und kräftig. Eiche, Sherry, Kupfer/metallisch, zitronige Asche.
Fazit: super „Standard“! Ein ganz toller und intensiv kräftiger Malt aus der nördlichen Speyside, der so gar nicht in das klassische Schema „grüne Äpfel/Birnen und Gerste“ der Region passt. Entwickelt sich immer wieder anders in der Nase (vor und während des Genusses).
