Lagg Kilmory is the new flagship in the distillery's corerange, which is based on the Isle of Arran. The smoky Single Malt was matured in ex-bourbon casks and represents the house style of the distillery, which was founded in 2017 and whose spring water for the production comes from a borehole on the distillery premises. Double distilled, the Single Malt is bottled at 46% vol. after its maturation period without chill filtering or the addition of colour.

Lagg is the second distillery of Isle of Arran Distillers to produce Whisky on the Isle of Arran, alongside Lochranza distillery. The modern distillery building that opened in 2019, is modelled on the contours of the mountains on the Isle of Arran, as seen from the tiny island of Ailsa Craig.

Kommentar: Jung aber schon ganz fein. Noch etwas metallisch, ganz leicht, sonst sehr sauber. Natürlich noch nicht viel von Fass. Aber der Brand schmeckt gut. Der Rauch erinnert in etwa an Ledaig oder Springbank.
Schon jetzt recht komplex - man darf gespannt sein...

Aroma: Typisch "coastal", mit Salz, kräuterigem Rauch, Zitronenzeste und milder, cremiger Vanille im Hintergrund. Hat auch eine medizinische "grüne" Note drin. Kräuterig floral, aber anders als zB Bruichladdich. Deutlich anders, ist ein anderes Biest. Ja, Honig kommt jetzt noch durch.
Geschmack: Herrlich. Rauch, Salz, geröstete Zitronenscheiben, süße Vanille, Malz. Umami ist auch mit dabei, sprich herzhaft.
Abgang: Rauch, Kräuter und Salz, mit gesüßtem Grapefruitsaft im Finish.
Kommentar: Der ist anfangs verschlossen in den ersten Drams und ohne Wasser, mit Wasser und wenn man die Flasche bis zur Schulter dezimiert hat (in meinem Fall nicht am selben Abend aber jeder wie er will), macht er schön auf und zeigt sich vielschichtig, reif und schön ausbalanciert, sprich nicht zu sauer/süß etc. Bin gespannt auf spätere Abfüllungen, der hat definitiv viel Potential und ist bereits jetzt ein Genuss. 4/5 Sterne.
