Aroma Intense with heather, sultanas, pears and orange peel. Stone fruits in combination with mixed spices and rich peat smoke.
Taste Ripe plums, red cherries and a hint of citrus, followed by intense peat smoke, caramel sweets, oak and dark chocolate.
Finish Mouth-filling and fruity with caramel, cinnamon and clove. Plus brown sugar, spices, peat smoke and a lingering sweetness.

Product description
Kilchoman Sanaig is named after the bay of Sanaigmore on the island of Islay. Originally, the first, limited bottling of Sanaig consisted of 30% bourbon casks and 70% Oloroso sherry casks. This made the Islay whisky a rich and fruity flavour experience, with a beautiful balance between smoky and subtle caramel notes.

After more than 125 years, the Kilchoman farm distillery is the first new distillery to be built on the island of Islay. Aroma: Peat Smoke Medicinal Smoke Sweet Ham Fruit Die Rauch-Faust kommt einem bildlich gesprochen schon aus dem Glas entgegen. Mineralisch-erdig, aber auch ein Hauch von Kuhstall und kalter Räucherkammer. Über allem liegen eine angenehme Süße und vielleicht ein paar Früchte. Aber mehr kriege ich auch nicht.

Geschmack: Peat Smoke Sherry Dried Fruit Spices Sehr cremiges Mundgefühl, weicher als die Nase erwarten ließ. Neben dem Rauch kommt nun auch der Sherry durch. Gewürze runden das Ganze ab.

Abgang: Peat Smoke Sweet Spices Herb Auch im Abgang ordentlich rauchig, süß und würzig-herb.

Kommentar: eine sehr angenehme Überraschung, trifft genau meinen Geschmack. Kein Komplexitätsmonster, eher einfach gestrickt. Aber durch seine Eigenwilligkeit und den typischen Kilchoman Rauch sehr interessant.

Comment: Grandios, für mich ein guter Ersatz des immer teurer werdenden Lagavulin 16...

Update: ich weiß nun, was ich "Kühle" genannt habe, eine wirklich starke Assoziation nach Weihrauch/"Kirchenmoder(?)" - seit dem ich das einmal gerochen habe, ist es immer da, werden wohl andere als Heidkraut erkennen - sehr interessant!

Kommentar: Sehr schöner Whisky von der Islay. Viele Facetten, der Rauch ist angenehm und gut eingebunden. Diesen Whisky kann ich nur weiterempfehlen. Mein erster Whisky von Kilchoman war der Machir Bay, der mir auch gut gefallen hat, aber der Sanaig ist eine Stufe weiter.
