The Laphroaig Select Single Malt Whisky contains proportions of all known Laphroaig bottlings (10 years, PX Cask, Quarter Cask and Triple Wood). The combination of the different casks and bottlings creates a harmonious balance between peat smoke, vanilla, honey and slightly earthy flavours.
Ian Hunter, the last of the founding family, visited the bourbon distilleries in Kentucky around 70 years ago to learn their ageing techniques. Up to this point, all the casks were from Europe, which resulted in a much sweeter Laphroaig. Hunter had a selection of ex-bourbon casks shipped to Scotland so that he could test these casks on his whisky. This is the beginning of Laphroaig as we know it.

Laphroaig (pronounced 'La-froig') means 'the beautiful hollow by a broad bay' in Gaelic. The area around the distillery, which is located on the remote island of Islay (pronounced 'Ei-la') off the west coast of Scotland, is just as beautiful. Laphroaig Whiskies are considered the most smoky-intense malt Whiskies from Scotland.

Aroma: Erstaunlich wenig Torf (für einen Laphroaig), angenehm eingebunden mit süßem Duft, Honig. Mit der Zeit kommen mit etwas Phantasie salzige Meeresnoten.
Geschmack: torfig, erdig, leichte Fruchtanklänge. Sehr trocken.
Abgang: Phenolrauch, etwas Salz.
Kommentar: Deutlich umgänglicher als der 10jährige Stammvater. Für mich das bessere Preis-Genuß-Verhältnis.
