The Pot Still Whiskey from Glendalough consists of one third malted and two thirds unmalted barley. The triple-distilled whiskey was first matured for at least three years in bourbon barrels and then received a 12-month finish in fresh Irish oak barrels. Irish oak forests were cleared for centuries and their strong wood used for shipbuilding for the English crown. Today, oak forests make up only 0.2% of Ireland's land area. This makes the cask maturation of this Glendalough all the more special. The distillery is involved in reforesting the oak population in Ireland. The bottle label shows the cross-section of an Irish oak tree, while the outer packaging is decorated with the pattern of its bark.

Glendalough means 'Valley of the Two Lakes' in Gaelic. The valley is also called the Garden of Ireland and is located in the Wicklow Mountains south of Dublin. It was here that five friends founded Ireland's first craft distillery. Glendalough is also known for its 6th century monastic settlement. This was founded by the legendary monk and hermit St Kevin, whose story also inspired the distillery founders and whose figure adorns the Glendalough bottles.

Kommentar: Ein nicht alltäglicher Whiskey, auf den man sich einlassen muss. Aber es lohnt sich. Zunächst erinnert alles an nasses Sägemehl; sowohl im Geruch als auch im Geschmack. Lässt man den Whiskey aber etwas und bewusst auf sich wirken, kommen zum Holzaroma fruchtige, süße und frische Einrücke von Birne, Honig, Nüssen und saftigem Gras in die Nase. Im Geschmack ist er sehr würzig mit Holz, Anklängen von Nuss, Zitrus und diversen Kräutern. Der Abgang weist herbe Noten auf, sicher vom Fass aus irischer Eiche. Dazu kommen noch Frucht-, Mandel- und Lederaromen.
