Number 17 from the Ben Nevis distillery is part of the Vintage 100 Proof series from the independent bottler Signatory Vintage. In this series, high-proof, uncoloured whiskies with at least 57.1% vol. are bottled, which corresponds to 100 proof. The term proof is an old unit of measurement for the alcohol content of a drink, particularly whisky, which indicates the minimum alcohol content above which gunpowder soaked in the liquid can be ignited. This method was used in the heyday of seafaring so that the casks in the belly of the ship could withstand the harsh weather conditions at sea. The single malt is a smoky Highlander that has matured for five years in refill oloroso sherry butts, allowing it to develop its strong smoky notes with spicy hints.

Kommentar: junger wilder Ben Nevis, der Brennereicharakter trotz Rauch und Alkohol ist aber da. Mir gefällt er recht gut,PLV passt auch.

Kommentar: Erstaunlich wieviel das Fass nach 5 Jahren bereits abgegeben hat. Man würde es nicht vermuten, wenn man blind verkosten würde. Im Aroma Ist man zunächst erstaunt über die schwere Sherry Note, die dem Whisky zusammen mit den Kräuter Aromen eine balancierte Zweidimensionalität verleiht. Letzteres hat mich stark an Springbank erinnert. Der Rauch ist eigentlich erst im Abgang dominierend. Hier kann man getrost zugreifen: Für den Preis macht man nichts falsch! Eigentlich ein Geheimtipp...also Pssst!
