The Old Pulteney Pineau des Charentes is the first whisky in the Coastals series to be matured not only in ex-Bourbon casks but also in Charente and Charente-Maritime casks from the maritime region north of Bordeaux. The grapes for the Pineau des Charentes are pressed into must and enriched with cognac brandy. Pineau des Cahrentes is traditionally fruity, light and balanced, and its influence on the Old Pulteney spirit is thus a very fruitful meeting of maritime spirits.

The Distillery: Pulteney
For a long time Pulteney could be called the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland. When Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso opened in 2013 they took over this title, but Pulteney hasn’t lost its attraction on Whisky lovers. The coastal style of the Old Pulteney Whisky (as the Whiskies from Pulteney are called) is a very unique one and the releases use to be very well judged by the Whisky experts.

Kommentar: Wunderbar süß und vielseitig aromatisch in der Nase und im Mund. Die 46 % Alkohol passen perfekt. Im Abgang kommt erst wieder Süße, die sich aber leider ziemlich schnell in etwas bitteres wandelt. Eine Mandelbitterkeit verbindet sich mit zu starkem schwarzem Kaffee Am Ende bleibt eine schwache Ingwerschärfe im Gaumen zurück. Und das dann aber gefühlt fast zu lange. Klasse Whisky mit gewissen Schwächen im Abgang. Deswegen nur 4 Sterne.

Abgang: Karamellisierte Nüsse oder Mandeln, frische . Lang und anhaltend
Kommentar: Das Highlight in Schottland. Eine sehr schöne Destille, nette Leute, familiär, tolle Führung. Sehr zu empfehlen. kein Durchschleusen in großen Gruppen. Wir waren nur zu sechst. Meinem Wunsch, mal 5 Minuten alleine mit den Fässern im Warehouse zu sein, kam man gerne nach. Ein Erlebnis. Auch die Auswahl der Whiskys, 5 Stück für 40 Pfund , dazu eine Einzelfassabfüllung, war sensationell.

Kommentar: Ich bin ein Fan von Old Pulteney und dieser hat eine tolle Fassreifung. Der maritime Charakter kommt auch noch wunderbar hervor. Gutes PLV aus meiner Sicht.
