This 25-year-old Old Pulteney in the new design replaces the 17-year-old and the 21-year-old bottling of the Pulteney distillery. After 22 years in former American bourbon casks, it was matured for another 3 years in former oloroso sherry casks.

For a long time Pulteney could be called the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland. When Wolfburn Distillery in Thurso opened in 2013 they took over this title, but Pulteney hasn’t lost its attraction on Whisky lovers. The coastal style of the Old Pulteney Whisky (as the Whiskies from Pulteney are called) is a very unique one and the releases use to be very well judged by the Whisky experts. read more

Die Farbe ist schon mal sehr appetitlich,
goldbraun, mit dicken, öligen Schlieren am Glas.

Ein Fan von Pulteney bin ich seit meiner ersten Whiskymesse in Tokyo. Muss in 2015 gewesen sein. Dort lernte ich einen Vertreter kennen, der mich wunderbar eingefügt und gleichzeitig eingeweicht hatte.

Ein herrliches Eichenfass!
Welch ein schönes Aroma.
Erinnert fast etwas an Yamazaki - aber mir schwirren wohl zu viele Assoziationen im Kopf herum.
Zarte Holznoten, Weinaroma, eine leichte Süße, alte Trauben, ordentlich Vanille, Honig … ein großartiges Potpourri dieser unterschiedlichen Fassarten.

Mir treibt es den Speichel in den Mund -
nicht, weil er recht stark wäre,
sondern wegen seiner fruchtig-herben, fast cremigen Noten.
Der umspült reizend meine Geschmacksnerven,
kitzelt mir schmeichlerisch am Gaumen.

Ich nehme an, die Ähnlichkeit mit Yamazaki kommt von den spanischen Eichenfässern. Die verfügen über eine verführerische Süße… es schüttelt mich wohlig am ganzen Körper…
