This Oban from the distillery on the Highlands/Islands border was bottled for Special Releases 2023. Themed 'Spirited Xchange', this year's bottlings represent cross-cultural collaboration with a range of Single Malt expressions inspired by countries from around the world. This range of original bottlings perpetuates iconic whisky characters with curiosity, passion and Taste. The Oban Single Malt Whisky is matured in Pot Still rum casks from the Caribbean, adding exotic fruit notes and gentle spicy molasses notes to the typically mild and fruity distillery character.

Exzellenter Oban in Fassstärke, das Rum Casc Finish fügt dem von Natur aus bereits Komplexen Oban viele neue Schichten hinzu. Sehr Teuer, aber verdammt noch mal sein Geld Wert. Einziger Wehrmutstropfen - vermutlich chill Filtered, vielleicht auch ein Klecks Farbe.

Aroma: kraftvolle Kombination mit tropischen Aromen von Zuckerrohr und Mangos treffen auf den fruchtig-salzigen Brennereicharakter von Oban. Wärmende Akzente und sommerliche Factten kommen hinzu.
Geschmack: Zitrusnoten verbinden sich mit Anklängen tropischer Früchte und einer angenehm trockenen Schärfe. Weiche, ölige Textur mit angenehmer Süße, reichhaltige Fruchtaromen etwas Salz.
Abgang: Eindringlich, intensiv und Würzig.

Aroma: Very fresh coastal, ozone, loads of vanilla, oranges, peaches, apricots, whiff of (campfire) smoke, dark caramel
Taste: Warm, mouth coating, very oily, vanilla, citrusy, olives, gingery, for 57% quite smooth, dried apricots, mint note coming through getting stronger with water, peaches
Finish: Long, warm, olives, very pleasant, drying, after some time the oranges appear, going over in blood oranges (very nice), more caramel coming through, and indeed plums
Comment: As all Oban whiskies this one needs also time in the glass to really open up.

Kommentar: Genauso gut wie der letztjährige Oban aus der DSR-Serie - toll, an dem kann man sich Stunden aufhalten. Viel zu entdecken. Toll!

Seit 2022 ist Oban auch ein Pflichkauf der Special Release Abfüllung geworden. Geglücktes Experiment kann man nur sagen.
