Matured for 18 years, Aberlour Distillery Double Sherry Cask is a high-quality Single Malt Whisky from the Speyside region. It was initially matured in a combination of American and European oak casks, allowing the whisky to develop a solid aromatic base and a balanced cask structure. Selected Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks were used for the subsequent finish, giving the Single Malt additional depth and a typical sherry flavour. The overall taste of the Aberlour Double Sherry Cask is mild, harmonious and slightly fruity with soft sherry notes reminiscent of dark fruits and a subtle sweetness. The profile is complemented by subtle spicy cask accents and a well-integrated wood structure. The long maturation process over 18 years makes for a complex yet accessible Single Malt that will appeal to lovers of classic sherry cask whiskies in particular.

The nose is very complex, with caramel, dark fruits, plums, and perhaps a hint of chocolate. There is also a strong wood influence from the casks. On the palate, it starts sweet, followed by notes of oak, cask wood, apricot, and banana, ending with a nice tingling sensation on the tongue and a ginger-like spice. The finish is long, leaving a sweet aftertaste and a pleasant maltiness.
Overall, I personally don't think this whisky is worth the extra money. It feels more 'austere' due to the longer aging, with the wood and oak being much more dominant. The 16yo hides these elements better and feels thicker, juicier, and more fruity, even if it has a shorter finish. The 18 y.o. is much drier, while the 16 y.o. is much sweeter and juicier. -

Angenehm süßlich, kein Schlag ins Gesicht. Ausbalanciert, Alkohol gut eingebunden.
Gerne wieder. -
