The 12-year-old Wild Turkey was bottled especially for the Japanese market. The deep amber colour is due to the long maturation period in heavily charred oak barrels, the interior of which is designated with burn level 4, the so-called 'alligator char'. The name comes from the strength of the burn, which chars the inside of the barrel to resemble the armoured skin of an alligator.

The Distillery: Wild Turkey
Situated in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, the Wild Turkey Distillery is an exceptional example for a Whiskey distillery that follows its own vision of how Bourbon has to be: characterful, very aromatic and last but not least full of power!
It hasn’t been very long that the distillery is called like the famous American bird. Before known as Ripy Distillery, it is now named after the brand that Austin, Nichols & Co developed. In 1940s Manager Thomas McCarthy, Manager of Austin Nichols, carried samples of his new Bourbon with him when he went to hunt wild turkeys with his friends. Soon they started to call it the “Wild Turkey” Whiskey and McCarthy decided to use this nick to be the brand name for his Bourbon Whiskey.

Kommentar: Wie (fast) alle Bourbons kann er einfach in puncto Komplexität nicht mit einem guten Scotch mithalten, aber das was er kann, kann er wirklich gut! Er hat einen tollen Trinkfluss und voll intensive Karamell-Aromen, es gibt nicht viele Bourbons, die da mithalten können oder das übertreffen. Gerne wieder!
