This cask-strength Tormore belongs to the Connoisseurs Choice series from Gordon & MacPhail. The malt matured for a total of 27 long years. The Speyside spent its first maturing period in a refill Bourbon barrel before it was refined in a first-fill Sherry butt.

The Distillery: Tormore

The Speyside Distillery Tormore was one of the first new distilleries that were built in the 20th century. It’s more known for its unique and pretty architecture than for its Whiskies which predominantly are used for Blends. Tormore Distillery was granted the status “listed buildings” in 1986 although it was less than 30 years old then. The Gaelic name “Torra Mhoir” means “the big hill”. read more

Kommentar: Die fast 60 vol% merkt man nicht. Meine Nase und mein Gaumen sind leider nicht in der Lage das Geschmacksfeuerwerk richtig tu beschreiben. Ich hatte aus einer offenen Flasche probiert und es ist momentan für mich der beste Whisky, den ich probiert habe.

Kommentar: Viele Tannine, Ewiger Abgang. Öffnet sich schön mit etwas Wasser aber von Sherry keine Spur wird erschlagen von der Eiche. Braucht wohl noch etwas Zeit bis er sich entfalten kann. Auch wenns ein richtiges Brett ist, 5 Sterne, ich mag es etwas Herber.
