This single malt from the Strathearn distillery in the Highlands is one of the last whiskies from Scotland to be made from the creamy, malty Maris Otter barley. Hand-matured from just 32 casks and matured three times, ex-bourbon, virgin oak and ex-sherry casks were used for the elaborate maturation process. The Strathearn distillery near Methven in Perthshire is probably Scotland's smallest distillery. It not only produces single malt whisky, but also a range of spirits, including handcrafted single casks, using traditional methods and ideas. Since 2019, the distillery has been part of the independent bottler Douglas Laing.

Auf den bin ich gespannt…
Was mir schon beim Aufmachen der Flasche auffiel, ist dieses schöne Aroma. Junges Holz, cremige Vanille, etwas Honig.
Der wirkt kräftig, ist aber weder würzig noch süß.
Das Holzaroma, sehr dezent, im Vordergrund.
Oh, ja, jetzt zieht er an, wird intensiver.
Er schwenkt jetzt auch in die würzige Richtung,
aber ohne wirklich herb zu werden.
Da sind nach wie vor die Fassaromen,
eine Vielzahl davon,
alles wirkt kräftig, voluminös, aromatisch.
Nun gut.
Ich will nicht überbewerten.
Ich freue mich aber über diesen gelungenen Auftakt -
das verspricht mehr!

Sehr schönes Aroma. Der Alkohol ist toll eingebunden. Lecker cremig im Mund. Kräftige Fassaromen. Schmeckt daher ganz leicht rauchig. Ein Whisky mit Wiedererkennungswert.

Abgang: Süßer, langer und cremiger Abgang.
