MacKinlay's Shackleton is intended to commemorate the over 100-year-old bottles of the same name that were found during an Antarctic expedition. Samples were taken from two of the old bottles and analysed for Taste. Already a few years ago, two whiskies were bottled under the name Shackleton. In the first bottlings, Glen Mhor was still used as the base note. This time, Richard Paterson married several Highlands malts together.

Aroma: Das ist ein durchaus leichter Whisky, wie so viele Einsteiger-Whiskys aus den Highlands und der Speyside daherkommen; die typischen Äpfel und Birnen und dann auch eine ziemlich satte Vanillenote.
Geschmack: Sehr rund und ausgewogen, sehr angenehm, süffig, weich; dabei aber eine ordentliche Vanillesüsse entwickelnd.
Abgang: Im Abgang bleibt immer noch die Vanille zurück, und eine leichte Malzigkeit; der Abgang ist aber nicht allzu lang, was zu erwarten war.
Kommentar: So rund und ausgewogen, das macht richtig Freude, wenn man mal was nicht allzu Anspruchsvolles und doch Leckeres geniessen möchte.
