MacKinlay's Shackleton is an authentically inspired whisky blend based on the legendary bottles left behind in the Antarctic during Ernest Shackleton's Nimrod expedition (1907-1909) and rediscovered in the ice over 100 years later. Two of the exceptionally well-preserved original bottles were opened and analysed in detail, both sensory and chemically, in order to reconstruct the historical character of this early 20th century whisky as precisely as possible. Based on these analyses, a modern interpretation was created that combines the style of the original with today's craftsmanship. While earlier bottlings were still based on stocks from the closed Glen Mhor Distillery, the current edition is based on a carefully composed blend of several Highland malts. Experienced master blender Richard Paterson is responsible for the recipe and has combined different distillates in such a way that the historical flavour profile is faithfully recreated. The result is a well-balanced Blended Malt Scotch Whisky with soft malt notes, a fine honey sweetness, elegant floral nuances and a subtle, subtly integrated smokiness. On the palate, MacKinlay's Shackleton is round, harmonious and pleasantly accessible, with a light spiciness and a gentle, medium-length finish. MacKinlay's Shackleton stands for traditional Scottish whisky production, historical authenticity and high-quality blending art from the Highlands. The combination of historical background, careful analysis of the original samples and modern expertise makes this Scotch whisky a special choice for lovers of classic Highland whiskies and collectors of exceptional bottlings with an expedition history.

Marcelon 14.12.2024Aroma:
