With the Ode to the Embers Single Malt from The Master's Anthology series, Glendronach Master Blender Rachel Berrie has created a smoky whisky that has matured in Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez sherry casks. With a total of three bottlings, The Master's Anthology series is dedicated to sherry cask maturation and what it has to offer in terms of aromas and flavours. The Ode To The Embers combines delicate, smoky notes with the fruity, spicy facets from the sherry casks.

    Aroma: Anfangs zurückhaltend, entwickelt sich zu Zwetschge, Orange und würziger Eiche. Der Rauch hält sich durchgehend im Hintergrund. Nett, aber nicht besonders aussagekräftig, da zurückhaltend und etwas verwaschen. Mutter etwas Wasser Fächern sich die Gewürznoten etwas breiter auf.
    Oak Dried Fruit Malt Orange Bonfire Smoke

    Geschmack: Guter Antritt - süß, leicht sauer mit Früchten und Malz. Gute Konsistenz. Scheitert dann aber leider in der Entwicklung. Aus dem dynamischen Antritt wird leider ein flacher, einfacher Whisky. Die vorher genannten Aromen finden sich recht konsistent wieder, zum Abgang hin setzt sich der Rauch etwas stärker durch.

    Abgang: Mitteilung, etwas Rauch, Säure und Eiche bleiben hängen

    Kommentar: etwas enttäuschend, hätte mir mehr vom wuchtigen, körperlichen (ehemaligen?) Hausstil erhofft. Das PX-Fass kommt nicht besonders zum Vorschein. Ein zwei Jahre länger (oder ein höherer Anteil an alten Fässern) hätten geholfen. Nett, aber n
