The Brugal 1888 Ron Gran Reserva takes its name from the year the distillery was founded. Jassil Villanueva is the first woman to hold the title of "Maestra Ronera" and is responsible for the Tasteof Brugal 1888. The rum spent up to eight years in former bourbon barrels and then again up to six years in former sherry barrels. The result is balanced with a slight sherry sweetness.

The Distillery:
The Brugal Rum distillery in the Dominican Republic is one of the oldest and best-known in the Caribbean. It was founded in 1888 by Don Andrés Brugal Montaner in the city of Puerto Plata on the north coast of the Caribbean state. One of Brugal's production facilities is still located there. Another is based in San Pedro de Macorís, where the actual distillery is today.
