This Ballechin was matured in Manzanilla sherry butts and bottled at natural cask strength after 19 years without chill filtering or added colour. Ballechin is the well-known and not only among peat-heads popular smoky edition of the Edradour distillery, named after a now closed farmhouse distillery.

Kommentar: Ein sehr komplexer und hochwertiger Whisky mit langem, angenehmen Nachklang.

Aroma: ordentlich viel Rauch, würziges Holz, Sherry, diverse Trockenfrüchte, Rosinen, Pflaumen, erdiges Herbstlaub, alter Reitsattel, Kardamom, Zimt, Toffee-Karamell.

Geschmack: nur leicht süß, eher ein herber Waldhonig, Toffee-Karamell, Räucherofen, geräucherter Schinken, trockener werdend, Trockenfrüchte, Rosinen, Marzipan, Bitterschokolade, Kakaopulver, wieder die Eiche, wird aber nie richtig scharf, das Alter ist zu spüren

Abgang: recht lang und wärmend im Rachen, wieder der Räucherofen mit Pfeiffentabak, Zartbitterschokolade mit Mandeln

Kommentar: Bitte vor dem Verriechen mindestens 20 Minuten den Whisky im Nosingglas offen „atmen“ lassen, es entwickelt sich ein tolles Bouquet. Sehr komplex, ein toller Malt.
Auch bei diesem Preis 4,7 Sterne (und damit aufgerundet auf 5 Sterne). Für Liebhaber rauchiger Sherryfass-Lagerungen im gehobenen Alter und Fass-Stärke ein Hochgenuss.
