The Tamdhu Quercus Alba Distinction III matured exclusively in Spanish Oloroso sherry casks. Quercus Alba stands for the American white oak. The wood for the barrels was transported from the USA to Spain, where the wood was dried and processed into barrels. This was followed by pre-seasoning with Oloroso sherry before the finished and saturated barrels were then transferred to Scotland to be filled with Tamdhu raw spirit. Tamdhu has been owned by independent bottler Ian Macleod since 2011. The elegant and slim glass bottle, reminiscent of Victorian times, was filled with the 48% vol. whisky.

La distillerie: Tamdhu
Situated at Knockando in the center of the Speyside the Tamdhu Distillery managed to survive difficult years of economical ups and downs. This is due to the status of Tamdhu Whisky as a reliable component in the Blends of the Highland Distillers for years. It always was “The Can-Dhu-Spirit”. Since 2011 the distillery belongs to Ian Macleod Distillers who meanwhile started a revival of the brand and relaunched the Single Malt Tamdhu successfully.

Aroma: Süß und sherrylastig: Reichlich Vanillepudding mit Honig, Zitrone, Kirsche und Madarine. Sanft und ausgeglichen. Der hohe (48 %) Alkoholanteil ist überhaupt nicht spürbar! Sehr gut eingebunden.
Geschmack: Leicht süß, herb und fruchtig: Cremige Wellen aus Vanille und Vollmilchschokolade.
Abgang: Lang. Ein Ozean an verschiedenen Früchten, Sirup, Vanilleeiscreme mit Mandarinen und Eiche.
Kommentar: Das amerikaniche Eichenfass zeigt sich von seiner besten Seite. Null Bitterkeit, viele komplexe Aromen und das zu einem guten Preis/Leistungs-Verhältnis! Deswegen 5 Sterne.

Geschmack: Pfefferminze und Zitrus mit nachfolgenden weichen Eichennoten, Pflaumen und Schokoladeplätzchen. Akzente von Zitronenglasur, getrockneten Kirschen und Spuren von Honigwaben folgen.
