Glenfiddich has ventured out of its comfort zone with the Orchard Experiment and presents with this bottling a Single Malt that has been refined for four months in Somerset Pomona casks. Somerset Pomona is a liqueur based on a secret blend of the juice of fine apples and Somerset Cider Brandy. The result is a summery, fruity whisky.

Aroma: Sehr fruchtig (grüne Früchte wie Äpfel, Trauben, Kiwi), darunter lioegend ein birnig-honigartiges Aroma. Durchaus komplex, Jugend nicht spürbar.

Geschmack: Süß und weich. Es dominieren eher Vanille und Glenfiddich-typische Birnennoten. Weinbrand. Die Komplexität aus der Nase ist nicht da, dennoch eine sehr runde und angenehme Sache.

Abgang: Anhaltend süß, langsam schärfer werdend und astringierend.

Kommentar: Wie so oft verspricht die Nase mehr als der Mund halten kann. Dennoch ist er keine Enttäuschung, sondern eine runde Sache, die ein schönes Wechselspiel von sehr süß und weich beginnend bis angenehmem bitter-scharf im Abgang vereint. Den Apfel findet man im Mund eher nicht, sondern vielmehr schmeckt er weinbrandähnlich. Ich finde ihn sehr gut gemacht und würde ihn in der Experimental-Serie nach dem Project XX auf dem 2. Platz einordnen. Ein wenig stört der UVP von 50 EUR. 40-45 EUR wären angemessen.
