Product description
The 2024 whisky edition of Elsburn The Journey was distilled from barley and chocolate malt and matured in European oak casks that were previously filled with the finest fortified wines. These included barrels containing sherry, port, Madeira, Marsala, Malaga and Grand Cru Bordeaux. The varied composition of the casks resulted in a balanced and fruity Single Malt with spicy notes.

Aroma: Sherry: Walnüße, weiche, eingelegte Früchte,
Weinfässer: Weinaromen, Weintrauben. Karamell, leichter Mokka oder Espresso, etc.
Wichtig: Braucht viel Zeit im Glas (10 bis 15 Minuten!).
Geschmack: Einprägsam, sherry- und weinwürzig und vielseitig: Viele sherry- und weingeträngte dunkle Früchte (z. B. Weintrauben, Pflaumen, ...), mit Akzenten von Vollmilch- bzw. Zartbitterschokolade. Helles Karamell mit Marzipanfüllung.
Abgang: Mittel bis lang. Trocken und fruchtig zugleich. Viele Früchte mit Kakaopulver bestreut.
Kommentar: Der wahrscheinlich Beste Whisky bislang aus Deutschland! Alles stimmt: Aroma, Geschmack, Qualität, Alter, Fassarten, Flasche/Umverpackung. Einfach ein tolles hochwertiges Produkt. Die Flasche hat leider einen hohen Preis, aber deutsche Whiskies mit 12 Jahren oder höher sind nun mal rar und teuer! Deutlich besser/komplexer im Aroma und Geschmack als der 12-Jährige Slyrs!

Kommentar: Ich habe selten einen derart durch die vielen verschiedenen Süßweinfässer mit Geschmack aufgeladenen "nur" 12 Jahre alten Whisky verkostet. Definitiv einer der besten Whiskys aus Deutschland. Den halben Stern Abzug gibt es für den Preis, der für einen Zwölfjährigen doch recht hoch ist.

Kommentar: ich war bisher immer zurückhaltend bei Whisky aus Deutschland. Ich bin kein Experte auf dem Gebiet und genau deshalb dachte ich immer, dass man besser dort bleibt wo die meisten Erfahrungswerte sind (Schottland, Irland, Japan). Es gibt nicht viele deutsche Whiskys mit einem Alter von 12 Jahren und mehr. Darin begründet sich dann auch der Preis.
Alles in allem ist es ein sehr guter Whisky, aber der Preis ist schon sehr hoch. Daher ziehe ich einen 1/2 Stern ab.
