Talisker, the oldest and still active distillery on Skye, was founded in 1830 by brothers Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill. In the late Victorian period, Talisker became one of the best-selling Single Malts, which shows that the whisky has its own distinctive style, then as now. In 1960, the distillery was destroyed when burning whisky ran into Loch Harport and set it on fire. As a result, the rebuilt, new distillery was given exact replicas of the old stills with u-shaped leach pipes that allow a kind of double distillation and together provide cooling in traditional worm tubs. These features still give Talisker its unique texture and character.

Talisker Storm

Talisker Storm is distilled by the sea on the rugged Isle of Skye. It is a dark, powerful and smokier member of the Talisker family with notes of wood, salt water and spice that will transport you to a sea storm. Talisker Storm is powerful and fresh, gaining complexity like a brewing storm. Sweet maltiness with the ripe aroma of red berry fruit develops into smoky, salty notes and a real explosion of pepper.

Talisker Port Ruighe

Few whiskies tell the story of their origins better than Talisker. This malt whisky evolves through a double maturation process in port casks. It is a salute to the Scottish traders who ventured out onto the wide sea and played a crucial role in establishing the port wine trade. Port Ruighe, which is pronounced like 'Portree', is the Gaelic spelling of the formerly busy trading port on Skye. The port finish combines the powerful maritime character of Talisker with the juicy sweetness of rich berry fruit in a superb taste experience. Each sip delivers the sweet smokiness of an abating wood fire combined with the fruity richness of ripe plums.

The second maturation was in re-charred former American oak Amoroso casks with heavily re-charred new AO ends.

Talisker 18 years

With its wonderful sweetness and warmth, combined with just a hint of smokiness, the award-winning 18 year old Talisker is full-bodied and smooth, yet quite confident. The 18 year old Talisker, a masterpiece among the Single Malts, was awarded 'Best Single Malt Whisky in the World 2007' at the World Whiskys Awards. Its nose is characterised by the aromas of juicy fruity Victoria plums, vine plums and perhaps some dried orange peel with notes of caramel or rum toffee and a touch of smoke in the background. Its palate taste is ostensibly sweet, then more definite with a hint of smokiness. In its entirety, it is warming.
