La Escondida Mezcal Reposado

La Escondida Mezcal Reposado is a mezcal that has been aged for 9 months in French oak barrels. Mezcal is a Mexican spirit with typically 40% alcohol by volume, which is made from the pulp of various types of agave. The flavour and appearance vary depending on the type of agave, the region and the preparation or, as in this case, the duration of storage. The best-known mezcal is tequila, which is distilled exclusively from the blue agave in the area surrounding the city of Tequila in the Mexican state of Jalisco. Mezcal is mainly produced in the Oaxaca region. The states of Durrango, San Luis Potosí, Tamaulipas and Zacatecas are also officially authorised to produce it. Every tequila is therefore also a mezcal. The reverse is not true, however, as any agave variety can be used for mezcal, even if they are mixed. Tequila can only be labelled as such if it is made exclusively from steam-grown Blue Weber agaves. Mezcal is one of the rising trend spirits of 2024 and a secret ingredient for fruity cocktails such as margarita or a mezcal negroni.
