The company F.E.W Spirits comes from the city of Evanston, Illinois in Chicago. This bottling was created in collaboration between Master Distiller Paul Hletko and the American rock band Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. The whiskey blend consists of a bourbon matured in rum barrels, a bourbon matured in vermouth barrels and a wheat whiskey smoked with mesquite. Mesquite is a type of plant that is sometimes used to smoke barbecued meat. The resulting smoky flavour and aroma is slightly reminiscent of engine oil, but is much more subtle on the nose and palate than one might initially expect. This is how this F.E.W whiskey got its nickname Motor Oil.

The grain-to-glass distillery FEW Spirits was founded in Evanston, a suburb of Chicago, in 2011. For the first time in 100 years, the small craft distillery is producing spirits in Evanston, a ‘dry community’ that had to endure Prohibition for a long time.

Kommentar: Außergewöhnlicher US Whiskey im Bourbon-Stil, sehr komplexe Aromen und Geschmack, interessante, ungewöhnliche Noten, die Rum und Vermouth Fässer scheinen sich bemerkbar zu machen, etwas weniger der versprochene Mesquite Holz Rauch - aber er ist wahrnehmbar. Meiner Meinung nach ein wirklich gelungenes Experiment, komplexe Balance und schön zu Genießen, einzig der Abgang könnte etwas länger sein und der versprochene Rauch deutlicher. Sehr zum Empfehlen für Bourbon-Liebhaber, BRMC Fans und Experimentierfreudige.
